New Layout

Well, I just redesigned the layout. I realize it’s kind of bland at the moment, but I’m someone who believes in typography over snazzy graphics. I’ll be touching up this design in the weeks to follow, and it will settle down into my own beautiful creation ;)

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break. I worked on my three projects, focusing mainly on one of them. I seemed to have strained a muscle in my upper-back in the process of entertaining my three nieces, so I spent the day laying on the couch with a heat pad, programming away. At least when someone calls today, I had an excuse to go along with the usual question:

What are you up to?
Oh, just programming.

But now, I get to say, “Well, my back is killing me, so I’m just relaxing and programming.”

I hope to post more tips here soon, too. I’ve been lazy and busy, both at the same time ;)

Fun times

Well, I had a “first” today. I implemented a new language feature in the compiler today. I had always wanted to do some work on the compiler, but I, a person who does mainly internal work and testing, don’t often have the opportunity to do such a thing. Today was different, however. I remembered a feature I had always wanted, and realized that now in 6.0 we had block-level dims, which meant the feature I wanted could actually be implemented. What I wanted was to be able to say:
For i As Integer = 1 To 100
instead of:

Dim i As Integer
For i = 1 To 100

I asked our main compiler guy how hard he thought it would be. Then, hearing his response, I asked if he thought I could do it. He said he thought I could, and so I set off on my journey into adding my first feature to the compiler.

Lucky me, it only took an hour and 15 minutes ;) Check out the next alpha if you’re in the betas program.
