About Me
I'm a 23 year old developer living in Kyle, TX, which is just outside of Austin. I've been programming for nearly my entire life, starting off in grade school with HyperCard, where I was actually very good at writing HyperTalk. Starting at about 3rd grade teachers would pay me to write lessons for their students to teach them HyperCard as well.
In 6th grade, I really was itching to write some games, and I was pushing HyperCard to its limits. I attempted at this point to pick up C, but it was too big of a jump. I stumbled across REALbasic. This was a great language for me to learn, as it was approachable to a newbie, but with its object-oriented foundation, I quickly learned the tenants of object oriented programming. With its Declare syntax, you could call into native libraries, which gave me a gradual introduction to the world of C.
In high school, Mac OS X public beta came out and I installed it and learned Objective-C and Cocoa.
After high school, I interned for the summer at REAL Software as a tester. During my one year at college, I barely attended my computer classes yet still passed with flying colors. It made me realize I was paying to "learn" stuff I already knew, and when I saw a full time job opening at REAL Software, I took it.
I learned a wealth of knowledge while at REAL Software, including C++, compiler design, networking, calling conventions, Linux APIs, and Win32 APIs. I stayed at that job four years, and for personal reasons and professional desires, I left to work as a Web Application Developer at Gratis Internet.
Gratis is a great place to work for, and had I not been presented with a great opportunity and an entreprenuerial itch that I needed to scratch, I would still be working there today. Thus, my plug for them is: if you're interested in doing web development for a great company, check them out.
As of May, I've been on my own as I work on my dream idea that I've had for many years.
